    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Nicholas is a "local boy", growing up in Burien. He started working for a veterinary hospital at the age of 13 and worked there until leaving for college at Washington State University. There, he received a Bachelors Degree in Micribiology and Public Health, a Bachelors Degree in Veterinary Science, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Masters Degree in Veterinary Clinical Virology and Immunology.

Active in the local Tukwila Rotary Club, Dr. Nicholas has been Past President of the Seattle-King County Veterinary Medical Association and Past President of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.  Currently he serves as Washington State Delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation.

Married for almost 30 years to another "home grown" resident, he and Kathy have two adult children.

Away from work, Dr. N. is busy with digital photography, flying the home built airplane constructed in his garage or riding his Harley with friends.

On many days, you can meet his Pug, Abby sitting on the chair in his office and his Black Lab, Sarah hunting for dropped food in our kitchen area. The cats usually stay home, keeping the upholstery covered in cat fur.

    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Keri Dertinger, or "Dr. D" as she likes to be called, is also locally raised. Growing up in the Maple Valley area with two brothers, she attended local schools including the University of Washington. There, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Zoology before receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University.

Since joining us at Cedar River, Dr. D. has increased our veterinary dentistry capabilities and has performed some amazing dental procedures for her patients.

After hours, Dr. Dertinger is an avid hiker and has shared with us some beautiful photos of her travels.

Hiding under her desk you can often find "Abi The Weiner Dog" snoozing in her fuzzy blanket.

  • Loryn

You will rarely see Loryn at the front desk. She is primarily in the treatment room and surgical prep area taking care of the patients. Loryn is a very skilled and talented person who will take your pet's x-rays, place I.V. catheters, assist in surgery, monitor the anesthesia and hold your pet in her arms while awaking from anesthesia.

Another of the barking voices from our kitchen is her adopted Pitbull Cross dog named Quinn.

  • Jacqueline

The most important people in any practice are those who answer the phones, greet you at the front door, schedule your appointments and direct client questions. At Cedar River Animal Hospital, we have some of the best.

Jacqueline has been dominating the presence of the front desk for four years. She somehow manages to keep control of the chaos and still provide amazing support for the pet owners. She will likely schedule your appointment, greet you at the front door and even escort you into an exam room and perform the intake evaluation.

On many occasions, you will see a baby gate protecting the business office area to contain her daughter's Jack Russell Terrorist.

  • Cora

Cora starting working for us as a quiet, shy high school kid working in the kennel area. She would walk the dogs, feed the pets, clean kennels and help keep the hospital clean.

Now, Cora is an integral member of the team who can "do it all". Cora runs the treatment area and triage on Saturday morning, works at the front desk and is a valuable assistant to the doctors and technicians. She is attending Pima Medical Institute to be a veterinary assistant and provides us with silly jokes and a smile.
