Clinic Tour

Slideshow: Virtual Tour

Welcome to Cedar River Animal Hospital!  We are very excited that you are visiting.  You already met our staff in another area of this web site.   In the following pages we hope to introduce you to the technology and equipment that we have to maximize your pet's healthy care.

Reception

Reception

Our recetion is designed to provide maximum service.  Our practice is COMPLETELY DIGITAL.  All medical records, laboratory reports, radiographs are on computer.  Each pet's full medical record and x-rays can be accessed from any of 12 workstations in the building.

Our retail portion is minimal.  We are not a pet shop.  However,  our Doctors  will often recommend a specific diet, shampoo or flea product for your pet.  We try to keep those items in stock to make availabiltiy easier for the client.

Of course,  if you need a WSU pet collar, leash or bandana - we have 'em!

Fully Stocked Pharmacy

Fully Stocked Pharmacy

At Cedar River Animal Hospital,  we maintain a fully stocked of drugs and medications.  For the occasional case that we don't have what you need,  the Doctor will write a prescription that can be filled at most pharmacies.

Did you know that in the State of Washington, medications for your pets ARE charged a sales tax,  while the same drugs for human use are NOT charged tax?

Treatment and Surgical Prep. Room

Treatment and Surgical Prep. Room

Our treatment area is a multi-purpose room.  The laboratory equiment on the far wall allows us to do a considerable amount of blood and urine testing.  This allows to get vital information about your pet's health in just minutes.

It is in this area where we will perform anesthesia, surgical prep, dental proceedures and minor surgery.

Each station has piped in oxygen and an active scavanger system to draw away any anestheia fume from the staff.

Surgery

Surgery

For our surgery patients,  we use only Isoflurane or Sevoflurane gas anesthesia.  Each pet is intubated with a tube into the trachea and monitored closely with electronic sensors for ECG, heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, blood CO2 levels, core body temperature and respiratory rate.

Many of our skin and oral surgeries are performed with a 20 Watt Carbon Dioxide laser.  With this equiment, a laser beam of light will cut the tissues rather than a steel blade.  The laser helps to seal blood vessels and nerve endings, reducing hemorrhage and post op pain.

Pain Management is Important

Pain Management is Important

Our Doctors and staff are fully committed to pain management.  We make extensive use of topical, oral, injectable and transdermal analgesics. Every patient that has received an incision or trauma of any kind will be given appropriate pain management medications.
Digital X-ray

Digital X-ray

Our in-house x-ray system is a state of the art,  all digital system.  The x-ray generator is designed to provide the best x-ray delivery and image with minimal radiation exposure to your pet and our staff.  Each x-ray image can be viewed within seconds of exposure from any computer in the building.  Each radiograph is digitally stored in your pet's electronic medical record and can be retreived at any time.

Each radiograph taken at Cedar River Animal Hospital is also examined by Dr. Chuck Root, a Diplomate of the Americal College of Veterinary Radiologists.  The images are electronically sent to Dr. Root for his expert opinion and we will usually receive a report within 24 hours.  Sometimes we will get a report within a couple of hours!

Kennel Area

Kennel Area

Granted,  there is not much glamor in the kennel area.  However,  the kennel room is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning.  There is a constant, rapid turn-over of room air.  Each pet always has access to water and are fed on an individual requirement basis.  Every dog is taken outside to "relieve" themselves at least twice a day and everyone is given soft blankets to sleep on. (We go through a washer and dryer in one year!)

Each pet has a status form on their kennel which monitors their appetite, water intake, urination, defecation and any medical or dietary requirements.

Dentistry

Dentistry

Our dental equipment allow us to perform a large number of proceedures for your pet.  Every patient is given general anesthesia and vital signs are electronically monitored.  During a dental proceedure,  your pet's teeth are cleaned wtih an ultrasonic scaler, polished and given a fluoride treatment.  The gum lines are examined for deep pockets and each tooth examined for chips, fractures or signs of disease.  If necessary,  the teeth can be x-rayed with our digital radiography system and appropriate treatments determined.  Our high speed and low speed dental equipment gives our Doctors the capabilities to perform a large range of treatment options.  If a problem is  found that our Doctors cannot treat,  we may recommend referring you to a veterinary dentist.
